Rapids Becomes Tornados With NBYSA Support
On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, Jerry Jernigan, the President of New Braunfels Youth Soccer Association (NBYSA), and Scott Ward, the Director of Coaching for the DFW Tornados Soccer Club (DFW TSC) South Teams, signed a sub-club agreement that essentially ensures the viability and growth of select soccer for many years to come in the New Braunfels area. The DFW TSC South Teams were formerly the Rapids Soccer Club (RSC). Although the two select organizations officially merged January 1, 2010, the name of the Club remains for the spring. Starting in the fall of 2010, with the expansion into New Braunfels, “DFW” will be dropped from the name, and the two clubs will officially become The Tornados Soccer Club. This merger brings three organizations together, providing greater opportunities for soccer in the south Texas region. The original DFW Tornados Soccer Club, based out of Colleyville, Texas, was established in 1990. They are regarded as one of the leading soccer clubs in the Dallas/Ft.Worth Metroplex and have earned the respect of many other clubs across the USA through their ties with numerous college coaches, the Premier Development League (PDL) and the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL). A major reason for the merger of the Rapids with the DFW Tornados of Colleyville was their Player-College Identification Program. The Club thoroughly prepares its players for the opportunities that await them, through distribution of their own college handbook, prior to even entering their high school freshman year. They also conduct College Symposiums with not only their own Club coaches who staff various colleges and universities who have an inside track on what is sought after, but guest speakers from across the USA. The organization will be conducting similar college symposiums that will benefit their newly joined South Teams. Recently several DFW TSC South Teams traveled up IH 35 to participate in the Texas Premier Soccer Showcase 2010 in Dallas, hosted by the DFW TSC of Colleyville. The tournament featured top level U15, U16, U17 and U18 club teams from the United States. All games were played on fields in close proximity to each other, allowing 40 college coaches from 6 different states to easily evaluate players during the showcase. In addition to play on the pitch, DFW TSC hosted a short Q&A for the parents and players of the South Teams prior to the Coaches’ Roundtable. NBYSA and DFW TSC are extremely excited about the future of South Texas Soccer.
